The LPO’s Symphonic Tango by Christina Vella, St. Bernard Voice"Though all the elements in the concert were terrific, nothing equaled the brilliant, beautiful dancing of Daniel Raphael and Carolina Jaurena (daughter of Marga Mitchell and Raul Jaurena). The couple started out with the relatively simple, smooth figures of salon tango, performed with uncommon suaveness and fluid transitions. Then, with each number, their work became more complicated and flashy, so that by the final piece, they demonstrated the aerial figures and speed steps that only professionals dare attempt. Both young people are consummate dancers who can perform ballet, jazz, flamenco, modern dance and Latin ballroom. But somehow the tango seems to be their natural idiom. Their work is flawless, confidant, graceful, and seamless; their lovely choreography seems inspired in every detail by the music, so that the orchestra and the dancers were a single, expressive unit."

She never hurries. She is the perfect complement to her father, Raúl's, bandoneón. Together, father and daughter carry us to a land where cool breezes never blow and the sky never reveals any blue, yet desire endures all the same."The Seasons of LoveMarch 1, 2007Reviewed By Jennifer Saavedra "The interesting thing, about tango, is that although the man leads, if he is a good dancer, the one that shines is the woman. So it really becomes a question of egos that is very difficult to balance.
The strongest dancers in the show, Carolina Jaurena and Diego Blanco, managed to create this balance. Perhaps it was their outlook, because as Jaurena says, she never imagined it as one dominating the other".

In place of the fiery sexuality often characteristic of tango dancing, Jaurena offers an understated passion that proves utterly irresistible. Terrazas is a perfect partner for her, both physically and expressively. He moves with a quite grace that underlines her tender qualities, and every so often he provides a bit of flash with a speedy lower-leg swinging action."
